; [EN]Post-colonial literature, particularly in what concerns fiction, gives special atention to issues like identity or violence resulting from the colonial and post-colonial past, under de colonialist heritage, but which are also a result of new social and political organizations that turn into forms of violence that are a heavier burden for women. Mia Couto and Paulina Chiziane's novels belong to the Mozambique post-colonial literature and are important to get to know de mozambican social structure after Independence. Both authors are a reference in the lusofonia world andthey really dignify the african literature in portuguese language. Their books represent mozambican worldviews whose values report to an unquestionable universality that aims to contribute to a new political, social and moral order. Though, the ficional narratives, which gather a complex and heterogeneous field of research and studies, are also a main object to the Comparative Literature and Cultural Studies. There are convergence points between the two novelists who live in the same country, have the same age and shared personal and political experiences in the past. However, gender and social origin have imposed some differences in the way they see reality in Mozambique as well as in the way they build their narratives. The female personal experiences are a privileged theme to Mia Couto and Paulina Chiziane. Even though they occupy different roles in the diegesis created by these authors, it is notorious the importance they both give to the feminine characters and visions. As they assert themselves by the frequence of their appearance in the stories and by the contours that define them, they take their space in the diegesis by their roles, speech and attitudes. In fact, they are the main victims of the contradictions and insjustices of the colonial and postcolonial society, so, frequently, these characters become divided between submission and rebellion, as well as between tradition and modernity. Just like the mozambican women, Mia Couto and Paulina Chiziane's feminine characters share the great courage in the way they face their destiny. They try to overcome the adversities that opress them without denying their incrustration in gregarious and community values. They show several qualities which elevate them above the ordinary world, turning to the oratura and story telling, hiding in the believes or transgressing the patriarcal norms which imprison them, unveiling an unusual courage. In short, Mia Couto and Paulina Chiziane integrate the contemporary writing style with literary and esthetics options that reflect the imaginarium and the ancestral and mythical traditions in Mozambique, but they also refuse the stereotyped world where gender, subjugated to phallocentric practices, overlap the individual options and human dignity.
